Currently seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (Nights) in the southwest area of Illinois.
The ideal candidate will perform clinical laboratory examinations for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, proficiency testing, quality control, instrument maintenance and validation, and testing management within the scope of validated competency.
Responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Technician (Nights) Performs laboratory procedures according to established and approved protocols that require the limited exercise of independent judgment and interpretation.
Tests are performed with the technical supervision of a clinical laboratory scientist/medical technologist, manager, or laboratory director.
May perform laboratory procedures across the major areas of the laboratory, or concentrate activity in one area such as blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology, or histology.
Responsibilities may include:
follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis; performs chemical, microbiologic, immunologic, hematologic and immuno-hematologic laboratory procedures that require limited independent judgment; recognizes unexpected results and instrument malfunction and takes appropriate action; provides laboratory information to authorized sources; demonstrates laboratory technical skills to other laboratory colleagues.
Performs clinical laboratory examinations for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, proficiency testing, quality control, instrument maintenance and validation, and testing management within the scope of validated competency.
Identifies patient and verifies identification according to policy ensuring that the proper specimen is being analyzed for the proper patient and for the indicated test procedure.
Requirements of the Medical Laboratory Technician (Nights) Associates degree and completion of an NAACLS accredited medical laboratory technician program OR Associates degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and successful completion of a 50 week US military medical laboratory training course.
OR Associates degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and 3 years full time lab experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
Certification or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency, ASCP or NCA, within 90 days.
MLT (ASCP) preferred.
